In 1983, two Calgary entrepeneurs started what is now called, Guardex Lubes Inc., in a private garage. In 1995, they were joined by a brilliant technician that had worked for General Motors Racing team and had a vast knowledge of tribology (the science of lubrication). Many of the advanced products that we have today come from his store house of knowledge. The Company was called E.C.I. Energy Conserving Lubricants Ltd. (ECL). This was a time of testing and procuring of material and technical knowledge.

In 1987, Allwest acquired the assets and patents of Oberg Enterprises Ltd.'s Canadian operation. The name, Oberg Fitter Canada Inc., was chosen to head the Fitter Division.

In 1989, Allwest acquired the assets of E.C.L. In 1990, Guardex acquired Allwest. Guardex combines leading edge technology and environmentally friendly permanent fluid filters which have proven to reduce your cost of operation.
